Last winter…

Last winter was spent in the throes of blissful gestation. In the anticipation of a new arrival and in the excitement of making a new place home. We spent every spare moment exploring the city, shopping and dining out.

Here, family life starts after dark. Don’t be surprised to see children playing at the park at 11 pm! That is when the outdoors become bearable. We would sit by the sea- side and and talk for hours. Well into the night. We’d watch the kids zipping by on their scooters and toy cars. We’d watch them trip and fall and get back back up; only to trip and fall again.

We wondered aloud what our little one would look like. Will she smile like the little boy there, or cry like the princess over on the bench? How will it be to push a pram around here?

And a year later…. We are doing all the things that we once imagined and dreamed of. It’s everything we thought it would be …and more…

The temperatures have started to fall again. The heat’s relenting. The humidity is dropping. The air seems lighter. The nights cooler. “Winter” is still a couple of months away. But the weather is definitely taking a turn for the better.

The winters here can get a bit nippy. The days are cool and some nights do get cold enough to get some light- cardigans and sweaters out from the closet. It’s now hard to imagine that there were days when I wore a cardigan to bed and slept with the AC off! The average nighttime temperatures was around 14 degrees Celsius. It isn’t that cold, but if you consider the nighttime temperature being in the late thirties for most of the year, it’s pretty darn cold!

Here are some random pictures from last winter…

P.S. Internet is still down. The good guys from Ooredoo (Yes..that is the name of the national telecom and broadband provider!) made an appearance today. They tell me it will be fixed in another 24 hours. Let’s see. Meanwhile, this 3G will take my life….or drive me more mad than I am…
