We headed off to another “beach” yesterday.
Promises of gritty sand and blue waters in the air….
Had a sumptuous lunch at a small but tasteful Indian restaurant, then braved the vesicating afternoon sun and drove off along Al Shamal Road toward Fuwairit Beach.
Lil Z will give you all the thrilling particulars of how to get there and so on, but Dr J feels compelled to report and comment on events that highlight the indomitableness of human enthusiasm and the might of the National Vehicle of Qatar- The Mighty, All- Conquering, King of the Road; The Land Cruiser!
Dr J has always imagined Toyota dedicating entire car- making cities as factories that produce the Land Cruiser.
One city for each GCC country.
They are omnipresent here.
A special licence to drive in the left- lane.
A permit to speed, overtake, flash and occasionally honk.
A lion is a lion, whether he is caged in a zoo or petted at home. But to see him in all his glory- put him in the jungle.
That is his terrain.
What he was made for.
The Land Cruiser is a behemothical nuisance on congested, urban roads and hard- to -get parking bays. But in the desert and on the sand, he is a sight to behold!
That said, it the man that maketh the machine.
Man with the sheer weight of his will and determination, coupled with ample enthusiasm and optimism can conquer any terrain.
Be it a beat-up 2001 Lancer or a spiffy, front- wheel drive sedan; you make do with what you have.
Enough with the back story… So what do you do, if you have to head to a sandy beach and have not a 4 X 4 on hand?
You park away and walk?
You try your luck with whatever you have!
Let the fun and games begin, friends!
So, pulling the truck out of the sand was child’s play for Mr Land Cruiser. And then Mr H dragged J away from the scene. She sulked and followed him to the beach, after all that was what she came for!
She wanted to help push the cars and zig- zag the steering though. That seemed like MORE FUN!
Till next time…
